I was bullied very badly for the majority of my first year, and being at such a fragile age where you are experiencing the transition from a child to a teenager and trying to discover who you are, I developed hugely low self-esteem and a continuous need for reassurance with any relationship I came to form over the latter years. Our brain changes in response to every experience we have, to each new thought and each new thing we learn.įor me, my brain got stuck in a cycle of negative thought patterns (aged 11) when I started at a new boarding school, and my first year turned out to be incredibly tough. This can have a detrimental effect on the way you see things and how you choose to react in different situations. The more we respond in these negative ways, the more our brains get used to responding that way and eventually it becomes so automatic that we don’t have to think about it.

I was convinced that the physical symptoms I was feeling must have been something serious and it’s only looking back now that I realise it was triggered by my anxiety. All candles are made from 100% soy wax and 10% of all profits are donated to the mental health charity Mind.Īnxiety has always been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. The creation behind this venture was to encourage others to feel proud and able to talk openly about their feelings, whilst raising money for such a fantastic cause.
